The Book “Azerbaijan Cartoonists” was published
The publication of “Molla Nasraddin” magazine in 1906 played an important role in the development of satire and humor, especially newspaper satire and carton genres in Azerbaijan, in bringing worthy works of talented artists to people. Because of “Molla Nasraddin” magazine a lot of outstanding artists, cartoon masters matured, their works became loved by many readers. The book “Azerbaijan Cartoonists” by Bayram Hajizadeh, cartoonist and the President of Azerbaijan Cartoonists’ Union, was published the other day on the occasion of the centenary jubilee of “Molla Nasraddin” magazine and 125th jubilee of A.Azimzadeh. This book is an interesting encyclopedia consisted of the works of the cartoonists who worked both in the past and nowadays. Short biographical information on the life and work of outstanding artists and their cartoon works that made people laugh and think had been placed in the book as a result of author’s hard research. As it is known, satiric drawing went on developing in the period of soviet power, and “Kirpi” magazine beginning to be published in 50-ies gathered many cartoonists around itself. Najafgulu, A.Guliyev (Elchin), V.Ternavski, Z.Karimbayli, P.Shandin, A.Alasgarov, G.Rizvan, G.Idrisov, V.Allahyarova, S.Jafarli, H.Nasiroglu and others were known as cartoonists who bravely unmasked the ugliness of the time, bribe-takers and bureaucrats, plunderers of people’s property. These cartoonists also deserved readers’ respect as skilful successors of A.Azimzadeh school. This encyclopedic book by Bayram Hajizadeh is the result of the author’s honorable work and beneficial research. We hope that this collection of unforgettable artists’ works will be a hand-book of all satire-humor devotees and support source of all investigators in this field.
