On the 10th of February of this year, the exhibition named “We and Cartoon” was held in memory of 140 year jubilee of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh and of centenary jubilee of “Molla Nasraddin” that had been created by him. The exhibition was organized by members of Azerbaijan Cartoonists’ Union in the Main Exhibition Hall named after Sattar Bahlulzadeh. More than 120 works of 32 artists were displayed in this exhibition which was organized by common efforts of Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Union of Azerbaijan Artists and Azerbaijan Cartoonists’ Union. Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev, who made a speech in the exhibition said that remaining J.Mammadguluzadeh in our memory, who had an important place in Azerbaijan Literature, is a duty of each of us, and he noted that the development of cartoon genre in Azerbaijan is very gratifying success. Especially emphasizing the role of Azerbaijan Cartoonists’ Union in this field, the Minister told about range of measures which would be held by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for worthily representation of Azerbaijan cartoon art on international level. Farhad Khalilov, the Chairman of the Union of Azerbaijan Artists, told that addressing of modern artists to this genre is very encouraging. He informed the participants of the exhibition about the formation of the Cartoon Section in the Union of Artists not long ago and about the election of Bayram Hajizadeh as a Head of this Section. The President of Azerbaijan Cartoonists’ Union Bayram Hajizadeh expressed his gratitude to the guests and art lovers for their appreciating the exhibition and told that the organization of such exhibitions was very important for the development of the cartoon art in Azerbaijan. Union’s President informed that range of such exhibitions on the occasion of the centenary of “Molla Nasraddin” magazine would be kept on. He notified that satiric magazine “We and Cartoon” published the other day, and also catalogues, albums and books published in this field are works done by the Union of Cartoonists. Then Bayram Hajizadeh talked about great interest shown by young artists for this field and about increasing number of the Union’s members day-by-day and he expressed his gratitude to the President of our Republic Ilham Aliyev, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Union of Azerbaijan Artists on behalf of all cartoonists for their care and support.
