Azerbaijan Cartoonists Union

Presentation of the book of “Molla Nasraddin”, and also Cartoon and Book exhibition named “Molla Nasraddin and Mollanasraddinchilar” (“Molla Nasraddin and Mollanasraddiners”) was held in the National Library named after M.F.Akhundov. The exhibition was organized jointly by Ministry of Culture and Tourism, National Library and Cartoonists’ Union. The exhibition was opened by the speech of the Library’s Director Karim Tahirov. Afterwards, Sevda Mammadaliyeva, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism talked in her speech about the range of measures organized in different art centers, according to the order given by President Ilham Aliyev in connection with the celebration of the centenary jubilee of “Molla Nasraddin”magazine. People’s deputy, professor Nizami Jafarov talked about significance of “Molla Nasraddin” literary school and about great interest that it roused up to now. In the exhibition, Doctor of Philology of Nizami Literature Institute Maharram Gasimli analyzed “Molla Nasraddin” magazine from the standpoint of the literary criticism, and explained its socio-political significance, and he also pointed out the importance of this event in cultural life of not only Azerbaijan, but also Near and Middle East. The member of administrative personnel of Cartoonists’ Union Soltan Soltanli told in his speech that “Molla Nasraddin” magazine had an important role in the development of cartoon genre as a branch of Azerbaijan descriptive art.
